CALIFORNIA AND GAS SCOOTERS [POSTED 07/14/2008] Effective July 21, 2008 X-treme Scooters will no longer be shipping gas powered scooters to addresses in the State of California unless they have CARB approval. CARB Stands for California Air Resources Board. Currently our XG-499 XG-470 XG-505 XG-550 scooters do not have CARB approval. Our XM-50, XM-150, XM-155, and XM-160 also do not have CARB approval and cannot be registered since they have no CARB label affixed to them. SCAM RESELLERS REPORTED [POSTED 06/17/2008] We have always suggested that you call or email anyone you buy scooters from on the internet to see if you can actually reach them. We are getting more and more feedback that some resellers are quick to sell scooters but impossible to reach for after sale help. Some even try to gain credibility for after the sale support by listing us as the number to call for help. We may be able to sell you parts, but we have no way to help you with a sale made with another reseller or individual posing as a reseller where there is a problem with the transaction. We don't mind helping X-treme and Rad2Go scooter purchasers, especially our own customers, but some resellers try to duck their customers all together after they've made some profit. One more thing. Some resellers buy scratch and dent scooters and resell them as new scooters, usually on Ebay or Yahoo stores. We absolutely do not and those that do are the ones that can never be reached, especially by phone and email. Scooters are expensive items and you should take some time to know your reseller before you purchase. NEW SCOOTERS [POSTED 06/03/2008] Arriving ETA mid to late June will be the XM-160 street legal gas moped. The XM-160 has a 150cc EPA certified gas engine with a top speed of more than 60 MPH and has similar specifications as our XM-150 and XM-155 models. The X-160 Sea Scooter is a new model with much improved sealing and electronic parts and will be available in June. This new model will replace the older X-151 and X-155 Sea Scooter models and will feature more battery amps and a 300/350 watt dual speed motor plus enhanced sealing. Arriving in July 2008 will be the XB-700Li. It’s a new electric bicycle that looks more like a street bike (ninja style) yet has a 700 watt rear hub motor powered up by 26 light weight Lithium batteries with the travel distance exceeding 40 miles each charge. The XB-700Li will be the first Lithium power assisted bicycle available in the USA and will offer 7 to 10 years battery life, more power and double the driving range per each charge and the weight of the bike will be much lighter than any of the other XB models. Since the XB-700Li is a power assisted bicycle, no license, registration or vehicle permitting will be needed to operate it, just as our other 3 models of power assisted bicycles allow. This bike was designed for the commuter or customer that needs to go the distance every day on a reliable, energy efficient, non-polluting, green certified machine without spending the big money it takes to get into an electric powered moped which requires licensing and registration. Arriving mid June will be the XB-420M. This new model is a 3 wheel mobility scooter designed for the not so handicap driver. This model has a rear end differential gear system with a 500 watt motor attached, forward and reverse capability and the look of an electric bicycle similar to the XB-500 rather than the boring mobility look. We built this scooter for the not so handicapped driver by giving it the ability to travel 15 to 20 MPH, we also installed a wheelie bar on the back since it has the ability (if the power switch is turned to high output) to ride on the rear wheels for up to 75 feet. The XB-420M will allow people confined to 3 MPH mobility scooters to get up and go. With QTY 4 - 20 AMP batteries on board, the XB-420 can run for hours on a single charge. Pricing will be very affordable and the standard warranty will be extended. The new XA-6000Li electric powered 6000 watt dual rear hub Lithium powered electric ATV is arriving June/July. Arriving June/July will be the XU-3000. It’s an electric powered 3000 watt UTV (Utility Vehicle) similar looking to the Yamaha Rhino only this will be the first ever electric powered off road vehicle of it’s type. Until now only gas has been offered. It will feature a full windshield, roof, roll cage, 2 front bucket seats, lighting and very large and powerful electric motor and battery system giving it the capacity to tow and and it can haul loads in the dump bed of the vehicle. These are large vehicles and will require special shipping which we will offer. Pricing is expected to be $10,000. NEW ELECTRIC MOPEDS [POSTED 04/03/2008] X-treme has replaced the XM-2000 with the new 2008 XM-3000. Information and photos will be available soon on our Moped/Bikes page. The XM-3000 will have a 3000 watt motor and will continue to use 5 large silicon batteries, top speed will be 43 MPH+, the maximum distance on a single charge is 50 miles and it will include an MCO and VIN for registration in any state. The new colors will be similar to the XB-600 and XM-150 with one being Blue on Silver and another being Black on Silver. Delivery in June/July 2008. The new XM-3000 now comes with Re-gen capability. The moped will re-charge it self while the moped is in operation. This ability is the first of its kind for mopeds. Arriving in June/July 2008 will be the XM-3500 running on Lithium batteries it will be 75 Lbs lighter than the XM-2000 / XM-3000 with a top speed of near 100 km/hr or 60 MPH. These Lithium batteries can be charged up to 2000 times and can last in excess of 5 years and will travel up to 75 miles on a single charge. The XM-3500 will look similar to the XM-150 gas moped but it will include a tinted windshield. The XM-3500 will also have re-gen capability allow it to re-charge it self while driving. SCOOTER TECHNICAL SUPPORT [12/30] Technical Support Current Status: December 26th is the single most busiest day for X-treme Scooter's (A.P.I.) technical support and customer care departments. The following 2 weeks after December 25th are the busiest 2 week period for technical support & customer care staff. The current wait time for a reply to a ticket is now down to 2 days which is a record low for us at this time of year thanks to an increased staff & many small problems that were fixed at the factory level earlier this summer overseas. The staff is currently working 6 days a week & 12 hours a day through January 5th to get all of the customers needing help taken care of. By January 3rd we should be down to less than a 1 day response time for each ticket submitted and ultimately down to a few hours reply time by January 9th, 2008. New X-treme Model parts pages have been added to our website: PARTS ARE FLYING OFF THE SHELVES0 [6/09 SCOOTER NEWS POST] Riding season has been met with a tremendous demand for scooter parts. Many brands like Razor (always having shortages and slow to catch up), Mosquito (who shut down recently), and Panterra (which never had much in the way of parts support) are suffering severe parts shortages. We are trying to help those in need as fast as we can for those parts in high demand. X-treme parts inventory has some spot shortages and a few outages. This time of year always causes some brief delays in a small number of parts orders, but for the hugh number of orders flowing our customers are very happy to receive orders in just one to three days typically. SCOOTERS, BIKES, MOPEDS, AND ATVS [SCOOTER NEWS POST] X-treme Scooters are looking good for availability and color choices with the exception of Dirt Bikes, which have not come back in inventory. The XB-2000 Electric Moped with two speed shifter is still discount priced while the VIN problem is being resolved for street licensing in many states. The 750 and 1000 watt new ATV's have gained popularity for off road vehicles of high quality and durability with amazing power (the 1000 can pull a truck). A new XB-600 600 watt Electric Bicycle will be available in limited quantity in Red and Blue for $799. Call or email us for details until information is posted. SHIPPING AND SCOOTER PRICES ARE RISING [SCOOTER NEWS POST] The USPS rates at the post office went up sharply May 15th, resulting in increases in some shipping charges. We still ship many heavy items in USPS Priority Mail flat rate boxes: Batteries, wheels, tires, motors. These flat rates have increased but are still a big saver for our customers over regular USPS and UPS rates. X-Treme Scooters increased some prices at the end of May. The only reason some X-treme models had not increased in price already is due to large orders of models placed at the end of last year for inventory that would sustain sales into 2007 for 5 or 6 months. The lastest inventory pricing reflects cost increases in metal, plastics, and lead for the batteries. The value of the dollar continues to weaken, too, and each dollar spent gives us less product in return which forces prices up. The inbound overseas shipping costs have increased 13% over the past 14 months due to higher fuel charges and outbound DHL / FedEX surcharges continue to rise. So order now before prices firmly rise. Again, realize that all authorized X-treme dealerships must sell at no less than the minimum set price, so you get your best deal with us and free lifetime Wholesale parts support. XTREME MODEL SCOOTER PRETESTED/INSPECTED [SCOOTER NEWS POST] Look on the internet and you will find at least some X-treme scooter owners who were dissatisfied with the product quality or condition in which it was received. The possibility of a major problem happening is admittedly around 1 out of 100 (or even 1 out of 60 depending on the model or when the model was first made available). Some of these occurances were due to shipping problems where the carrier caused the defect or problem. Other elements of quality control in China with the increases of mass production have caused the remainder of the problems. No matter who you purchase an item of complexity like a scooter from on the internet you have that risk of buying something that has no warranty yet has major issues! And it is nothing new. In fact the problem was much worse several years ago. It was a fact of life in purchasing over the internet or by mail order!! Today there is usually a limited warranty coverage. And the warranty will cover even the 1 out of 10 received scooters that have very minor issues like something is missing from the box or the scooter actually has something that makes it not look new. Limited warranties are provided for even these common occurances, but you should always read the warranties since they are Factory Warranties that the scooter brand provider follows to the letter. They are fair, but unbending in what they will do for the new owner. The X-treme Scooter warranty is reprinted here. X-treme scooters are capable of being the elite of scooters, but volume and quality have caused increasing problems. That is why having a warranty is a very very good thing. Yet warranty issues can be time consuming and problematic. You might have to pay shipping, and you would have to install the new part replacement. You might even receive the part and it is defective. You have to go through procedures, talk to technicians, and maybe you don't even know what you need or how to resolve it even with a technician talking in your ear. At least it is not like most store scooters where you can only return it and waste a lot of time because they do not even try to support the scooters they sell! But, even with X-treme's warranty if you are one of the small percentage of customers needing major assistance through the warranty procedure it can be very frustrating and anger producing. Thus the blogs and reports that X-treme scooter buyers should be wary of the product prior to purchasing. We have a solution. We have received scooters from vendors and companies for many years and some of them needed attention before we let our and other local kids and customers ride them. Many things can go wrong, but most are minor things that do not even require parts replacement. We have tuned up scooters we sell locally for a long time. Now we offer our customers this opportunity to have most models inspected and tested at our local facility to insure they are in proper working order prior to shipping the scooter order on to the customer. It does cost more since there is extra shipping fees involved and time to do the testing, and, if needed, correction any issues we find. But from some customers point of view it seems a necessary thing to provide. Paying more is preferable to the possible frustration of a customer who has no ability to resolve even minor issures. And paying more is the very reason some other scooters like Bladex are considered better scooters due to the additional Quality control. So we now provide many X-treme model scooters with the option to have a thorough inspection and testing done by our dealership prior to reshipping to the customer. It will require 2-3 more weeks for delivery to a customer. You can select this option for most scooters that are not Freight Delivered (freight cost $70 more and would add too much shipping when more than doubled to the customer door). Is there an alternative? No, not really since every scooter manufacturer has these problems and especially scooters manufactured in China where assembly lines are constantly changed and can cause quality control issues for each remanufacture of a scooter model. Even American made scooters now use many Chinese parts, so no scooter is totally immune to quality issues. Not even scooters sold in local store where your only choice when a problem occurs is to take it back IF it is within a reasonable time. They do not sell parts to support the scooters they sell so eventually you will need help from some source (that is why we went into business - scooters had no parts support and could not be repaired when simple things like flat tires or broken belts happened. We have the ability to provide the extra attention to help insure you get a product you want without the possible frustrations. This extra effort does cost extra, but we can help. Q TRANSPORT REDESIGN [SCOOTER NEWS POST] Rad2Go has announced that a next generation version of the Q Transport is in the works! Hopefully the new model will be available summer 2007 or fall, but in time for Christmas. On numerous occasions we have put together scooters using parts from different scooter laying around. We know from experience that we can put together very high speed, low acceleration scooters; or, we can put together scooters from parts that make inclines or rider weight no problem. The variety of parts available can make a scooter anything you want it to be.
On common thing we have available is parts for the X-treme X-360 scooter and Rad2Go scooter. Taking some of these components from each scooter can make a very nice hybrid with high speed, great acceleration, and not much modification to achieve excellent results. We have written about this effort (with pictures) at Performance Scooter Construction. Within a few hours and not a great amount of money we achieved a very nice hybrid scooter that can accelerate quicly, climb inclines (hills), and reach very nice top speeds without draining the battery very quickly. But what customers like the most is our fast order response and delivery of the order, AND the fact that the total of an order WITH shipping and handling can be seen as soon as items are placed in the Shopping Cart. This last item really draws a response since most merchants require you to enter in several pages of information (name, address, etc., plus credit card information) BEFORE the shipping and handling is calculated and added to the order. I hate to provide all that information, wasting time when it becomes apparant that the extra charges are higher than expected for the method of shipment selected. But, parts change as have suppliers we buy from because nothing stays the same. Most of our suppliers have come and gone. Sometimes it is a scramble to find reliable suppliers for items we need, and even the time tested suppliers have their problems! But with the exception that a picture may not exactly reflect a part we currently sell on our website there is still quality testing of the parts before they are purchased in bulk and again before they are packaged for shipment to our customers. Testing is done using bench test equipment when called for, e.g., electrical components must be tested. Other items are inspected visually. Tires and tubes are pressurized and checked for defects (no one wants to buy a new rear wheel with a bent rim or sprocket). Items are put in limited use on the bench or even temporarily mounted in a scooter for use tests if necessary. What this saves our customers is time primarily that could be lost while shipping back a part and waiting on a new part from a vendor who does not take the time to evaluate the parts before they ship them.
We also hear from customers who are thankful that we helped them when the company that sold them their scooter or scooter parts was unavailable or nearly impossible to reach. Some said that even after they made contact they were not helped. It takes more than being able to sell scooters and parts to be knowledgable and helpful when customers need assistance or advise. We have nearly 45 years of electronic background experience and motorcycle rebuilding experience. And having also built amateur aircraft certainly has been an asset to building and modifying scooters, testing parts, and having knowledge of how to resolve problems.
